Channings Five Edwardian town houses were knocked together in this tran-
quil residential area on the edge of the city center to create this hotel, which main-
tains the atmosphere of a Scottish country house. Most of the furniture has been
personally collected by the company's owner over the years. Guest rooms are modern
in style; the front units get the views of the neighboring Georgian architecture, while
the rear ones offer vistas toward the Firth of Forth and have a more secluded feel.

The George Hotel A traditional yet modern hotel in the heart of New Town. The
buildings that house this hotel on posh George Street were first erected in the
1780s, transformed with alterations of Corinthian and neo-Renaissance style during
the next 150 years or so before becoming the exclusive George Hotel in 1950. In
2006-07, another major renovation took place, bringing with it the stylish new res-
taurant and bar, Tempus.
