THE WEST END
Expensive
Hotel du Vin Bistro at One Devonshire Gardens This hotel (which
most still call simply One Devonshire) has been the most glamorous the city has to
offer for more than a decade. It's the place where the great and good traditionally
stay. Of the guest rooms, the “Balfour” (aka the luxury town house) is the most
impressive, with a sitting room, sauna, dining space, exercise room, and more. “Hush
Heath,” fashioned after a Kentish Manor House, is not far behind. The “Vettriano
Suite” has a luxury freestanding bathtub in the bedroom. The hotel has an excellent
fine-dining modern restaurant, Bistro at One Devonshire Gardens (p. 187), and
for all the obvious luxury it is also family-friendly.

Moderate
Albion Hotel This unpretentious small hotel was originally two nearly identical
beige-sandstone row houses in a leafy district of the West End. High-ceilinged guest
rooms have modern furniture and a shower-only bathroom. If your hotel require-
ments are straightforward, you'll likely be happy here, where they particularly pride
themselves on friendliness.

Ambassador Hotel Across from the Botanic Gardens and overlooking the
River Kelvin, this small hotel in a circa-1900 Edwardian town house is owned by the
same people as the Albion (above). Suites are spacious enough to accommodate five
to seven guests. The hotel is well situated for exploring the West End, with many
good restaurants or brasseries nearby on Byres Road.
