ABode This boutique hotel in the city center, formerly known as the Arthouse,
was originally built in the Edwardian era to house Glasgow's school board. Part of a
chain of U.K. luxury hotels, ABode particularly prides itself on its fine-dining restau-
rant, Michael Caines @ ABode (p. 184). It is under the direction of a Michelin-
starred chef who is based in England, while a more casual cafe bistro is located in
the basement.

have turned the one-time Royal Scottish Automobile Club into a luxury spa hotel.
Opening in progression, The much-promoted spa (free allocated time slots, exclud-
ing treatments, for all guests) was still under construction as we went to press but
will be open by Autumn 2010, although the hotel overnight rooms and well-received
restaurant and bar were accepting visitors.

conversion are bigger with high ceilings (though there is no lift to the older part of
the hotel). In the vaulted space below reception is the popular brasserie of the same
name and a champagne bar.
