Buffalo Bayou: Sabine Street
to Waugh Street
Explore 2 miles on the north side of Buffalo Bayou, just west of downtown Houston. Good views of the
downtown skyline are available. There is much green space, and the bayou's edges support a wide vari-
ety of tree species. Along the way you'll reach the Waugh Street bridge, home to 250,000 Mexican free-
tailed bats. Year-round residents, the bats can be observed leaving their roost around dusk.
Distance: 4.4 miles out and back
Approximate hiking time: 2.75 hours
Difficulty: Easy due to paved trail; little elevation change

Finding the trailhead: Traveling north on I-45 toward downtown Houston, take the
Allen Parkway exit (47A) on the left. Turn right onto Sabine Street and then right onto
