George Bush Park: Barker to
Bayou Bridge
This trail is located in 7,800-acre George Bush Park, part of the 13,500-acre Barker Reservoir. It is the
largest park in Harris County and the sixth-largest city park in the nation. This area was part of the ori-
ginal Stephen F. Austin Colony. Wildlife, including shorebirds, can be seen around the bridge over the
bayou.

Approximate hiking time: 1 hour
Difficulty: Easy; flat paved surface with no elevation gain

In addition: There are no restrooms or potable water at the trailhead. Located completely
inside Barker Reservoir, this trail is sometimes flooded. Call the park at (281) 531-1592
to check conditions.
Finding the trailhead: From the intersection of TX 6 South and I-10 West, continue
south on TX 6 for 3.4 miles. Turn right onto FM 1093 (Westheimer Road); go 2.6 miles
to 16756 Westheimer Rd. (George Bush Park) and turn right at the park entrance. Fol-
low the entrance road to Beeler and South Cypress Roads. Turn left into the Equestrian
