never really recovered until today (Homburg & Palm 2004, pp. 6-9). It is
only recently that communication between chemical science, the chemi-
cal industry, the environmental movement, and the public at large has
begun to improve. The replacement of popularization and public rela-
tions campaigns by dialogue is crucial here. In that respect, perhaps, we
are now witnessing the final days of traditional approaches to the popu-
larization of chemistry. How the new approaches will influence the pub-
lic image of chemistry, can only be known in the future.
