the estimated and the true absolute scale is larger than 5 %, corresponding to about
4 standard deviations, which indicates the influence of systematic effects on the
three-dimensional reconstruction result (cf. Sect. 5.1.3.3 ).
5.1.3.3 Random Errors vs. Systematic Deviations
For the offline algorithm, the relative differences between the ground truth and the
reconstructed absolute scale always amount to less than 3 %, corresponding to 1-2
standard deviations (cf. Table 5.1 ). Presumably, both random errors and small sys-
tematic effects contribute to the observed deviations.
