Image Processing Reference
In-Depth Information
Take a look at the Abou t menu item. Those responsible for programming
GIMP are mentioned here in an animated image. Also, when you click the
Credits button, you will find a list mentioning those involved in creating GIMP.
You can also see which version of GIMP you installed. The next menu item,
Plug-In Browser , opens a window with an overview of the installed plug-ins
and information about them. Procedure Browser lists all available procedures.
This may not appear helpful at first, but it does help when you are creating
your own script-fus and plug-ins. The last menu items, GIMP Online and User
Manual , offer links to the website of the developer community, the project
home page, the plug-in library, and the online user manual. The link to the
GIMP plug-ins is especially interesting because you can extend the program's
abilities. If there is something in particular you want to do, you might want to
look through here.
The User Manual menu item opens the user manual for GIMP that is
integrated in the Help menu. The user manual is a collection of tutorials and
how-tos. It leads you from simple tasks to more complex ones. The manual
provides worklows similar to those described in this topic.
This menu is not the only way to access the Help function. You can also
find a Help button in the individual windows that open when you're working
with a tool from the Toolbox or a function out of the menu of the image
window (see igure 1.24 ).
Figure 1.24
The Scale window, which you can find under the Image >
Scale Image menu or as a tool in the Toolbox. Clicking the
Help button opens the corresponding page in the user
manual.
You should now have sufficient knowledge to get started with image
editing and the GIMP program. In the following chapters, you will learn how
to edit images with GIMP.
