For your project to be truly open source, you must do the following: 2

Allow anyone to study, modify, distribute, make, and sell the hardware.
Provide publicly accessible design files and documentation (the source).
Clearly specify which portion of the design, if not all of it, is being released under
the license.
Do not imply that derivatives are manufactured, sold, covered under warranty, or
otherwise sanctioned by the original designer.
Do not use trademarks of other companies without permission.
Do not release the hardware with a noncommercial or no derivatives license.
The following steps are optional:
Require attribution be given.
Use the open source hardware logo to signify the hardware follows the Open
Source Hardware Definition.
Require derived works to carry a different name or version number from the origin-
al design.
Hardware may be copied directly or have derivatives created from it.
Require a viral license.
