Appropedia pages were being ported to the One Laptop per Child (OLPC) project,
which has enjoyed widespread publicity in the major media. The OLPC ( Figure 16.4 ) is a
low-cost laptop designed to revolutionize education for the world's children. Specifically,
the OLPC initiative hopes to provide educational opportunities for the world's most isol-
ated and poorest children by giving each child a rugged, low-cost, low-power, connected
laptop as well as open source software tools and content designed for collaborative, joy-
ful, self-empowered learning. 14
