documentation that should accompany the design files.
1. Hardware and mechanical designs that demonstrate how to physically make
the product: This stack includes 2D and 3D models, in vector graphics files (e.g.,
.dxf, .dwg, .ai, .pdf, .3dr). It identifies materials used, dimensions for any enclos-
ures, and a list of mechanical subsystems.
2. Electronic schematics and circuit diagrams: This stack includes diagrams of
electronic circuitry, the physical layout of the circuit board, and a parts list (i.e., the
components for the circuit). The physical layout diagram demonstrates how com-
ponents are physically laid out on the circuit board itself. Formats for electronic
schematics and layout diagrams are often 2D images (.pdf or .png), Eagle files
(.sch .brd), or Fritzing files (fritzing.org).
3. Bill of materials (BOM), parts list, or recipe: This stack includes a detailed list of
the parts used, places to source those parts, part numbers, cost of each item, and rel-
