MEYHANES
On weekends, locals like to get together with friends and family. And many of these get-togethers
occur in meyhanes (traditional Turkish taverns).
Meyhanes serve a particular style and range of food. A standard menu will include a lavish array
of hot and cold mezes, a limited number of meat kebaps and a selection of whatever fish was fresh
and plentiful at the market that morning - all washed down with copious pourings of the local tipple,
rakı (aniseed brandy).
