CAFE CHAINS
In recent years, the city's fashionable streets and shopping malls have been colonised by an ever-pro-
liferating colony of concept cafes. With designer interiors, strong visual branding, international
menus and reasonable prices, these chains have been embraced by young İstanbullus with alacrity,
and are great places to spend an hour or so people-watching over a coffee, drink or meal. Look out
for branches of the following:
» The House Cafe OFFLINE MAP The most glamorous of them all, with interiors by the uber-fash-
ionable Autoban architectural group, menus by Australian/UK-trained chef Coşkun Uysal and prom-
inent locations, including İstiklal Caddesi, Teşvikiye Caddesi in Nişantası (Teşvikiye Caddesi 146,
Teşvikiye; Osmanbey) , Sofyalı Sokak in Asmalımescit ( www.thehousecafe.com.tr ; Sofy-
alı Sokak; Karaköy, then funicular to Taksim) , Cevdet Paşa Caddesi in Bebek, and Ortaköy
Meydanı on the Bosphorus. Best branch: Ortaköy Meydanı ( İskele Meydanı 42; breakfast platters
24, sandwiches 15-26, pizzas 17.50-27.50, mains 16.50-29.50;

posite the Bebek ferry dock.
» Midpoint OFFLINE MAP A laid-back West Coast American feel is evident here, with sleek but an-
onymous interiors and huge menus, featuring wraps, salads, crêpes, burgers and quesadillas. Best
