( www.karakoygulluoglu.com ; Kemankeş Caddesi, Karaköy; baklava 4-7, börek 6; 8am-11pm;
Karaköy) This Karaköy institution has been making customers deliriously happy and dent-
ists obscenely rich since 1947. Head to the register and order a porsiyon (portion) of
whatever baklava takes your fancy ( fıstıklı is pistachio, cevizli walnut and sade plain),
preferably with a glass of tea. Then hand your ticket over to the servers. The börek (filled
pastry) here is good, too.

alike are raving about the dishes created by chef Didem Şenol at her stylish restaurant
near the Karaköy docks. The author of a successful cookbook focusing on Aegean cuisine,
Didem's food is light, flavoursome, occasionally quirky and always assured - everyone
eats well here. You'll need to book for dinner; lunch is cheaper and more casual.
