cafe make SALT Beyoğlu nearly as impressive as its Galata-based sibling. Occupying a
former apartment building dating from the 1850s, it shows the work of both high-profile
and emerging international and local artists.

funicular to Tünel) The most fashionable of the city's commercial galleries and the only one
with a strong international profile, Galerist is owned by architect Melkan Gürsel Taban-
lıoğlu and serious (ie megamoneyed) art collector Taha Tatlıcı. It shows Turkish artists
working in a variety of media. The gallery's second space is located in the rapidly gentri-
fying suburb of Hasköy on the Golden Horn.

space has been neck-and-neck with the Garanti Bank's SALT cultural centres in the race
for the accolade of most exciting new arts venue in the city. In our view, the result is a tie.
Come here to see shows by Turkish and international artists of the calibre of Mona
Hatoum.
