Wrapping It Up
In this chapter, we provided a general framework that you can use to identify
Big Data. We explained why the enhanced analytic capability that can be de-
rived from it represents an inflection point. We used the terms volume, variety,
velocity, and veracity to give you an easy-to-remember way to understand
and classify a Big Data opportunity. The Big Data era is all about enhancing
analytics through a purpose-built Big Data platform that introduces new
methods and techniques and synergizes them with just as important tradi-
tional solutions you have running today. As such, Big Data discussions should
never start out with “let's migrate off our current warehouse technology.”
These approaches complement one another, and just like the athlete who coor-
dinates multiple skills for superb performance, so too will the IBM Big Data
platform power-up the instantiation of your successful and business-differen-
tiating Big Data initiatives.
