Big Data. Of course, Guardium has been integrated with relational systems
for a long time, enabling it to monitor and protect structured Big Data. As
we've said before: if governance is needed for an important warehouse envi-
ronment, it's needed in Big Data land as well. We cover some of the details of
how Guardium can be used to secure Hadoop and more in Chapter 10.
InfoSphere Optim
The InfoSphere Optim (Optim) suite of products offers industry-leading
data growth management, test data management, and security capabilities.
It has long helped data warehouse systems control Big Data growth through
archiving. It's also ensured efficient test data management by generating
right-sized test data sets. Moreover, it has ensured the security of sensitive
test data through masking, the practice of using realistic (but not real) data
in test environments.
All of these capabilities can be extended to new Big Data technologies.
For example, Optim works with Hadoop; it can mask data within a Hadoop
system. Big Data systems have sensitive data too, sometimes more so than
other systems. Masking ensures that sensitive Big Data isn't compromised.
Optim can also take archived data from other target systems (operational
applications, data warehouses, and so on) and store that data in Hadoop,
where it can be analyzed.
Optim is also deeply integrated with the various flavors of the pattern-
built IBM PureData Systems, offering an optimized connector to archive
data and to generate right-sized test data deployments for these systems.
We discuss many of these integration points in Chapter 10.
WebSphere Front Office
IBM WebSphere Front Office (Front Office) is made up of integrated compo-
nents for receiving, consolidating, and distributing market data to front,
middle, and back-office applications within financial organizations. This
robust product offers flexibility and reliability in virtually any customer
environment. Streams is integrated with Front Office, which provides
Streams with real-time insights and data feeds.
