In-Depth Information
addressed by vendors in this space with the same degree of focus that IBM
brings to the problem domain. If velocity is such an important aspect of Big
Data, it stands to reason that data in motion needs to be integrated with busi-
ness intelligence for users to gain insight into the past, present, and future.
IBM Cognos Consumer Insights (CCI) is a rich social media analytic
application. It allows users to analyze, visualize, and report on consumer
sentiment and evolving market topics from social media sources. IBM CCI
is integrated with IBM's Big Data platform and in particular BigInsights.
BigInsights provides CCI the power and flexibility to process large vol-
umes of raw social media data.
IBM Content Analytics with Enterprise Search
IBM Content Analytics (ICA) provides leading capabilities for analyzing
unstructured content. But what happens when data sets grow too quickly to
process, as we know that they often do? BigInsights is integrated with ICA
and the two work together to ensure ballooning data volumes are not a
problem. IBM Content Analytics is also integrated with the analytics-based
IBM PureData Systems so that they can share insights and information.
Along with IBM InfoSphere Data Explorer (the technology that was obtained
through the Vivisimo acquisition, and which we cover in Chapter 7), ICA
provides broad and extremely capable unstructured information process-
ing, discovery, and consumption options.
SPSS
IBM SPSS software is a broadly deployed and sophisticated predictive ana-
lytics portfolio. It's no surprise that customers want to leverage SPSS to
interact with the IBM Big Data platform. At-rest modeling is reasonably
well understood, but what if you want to take predictive analytics to the
extreme—to make predictions as the data comes into being, be it at a point
of sale, a hedge fund trader 's Bloomberg terminal, or even emergency room
monitoring equipment? After all, the whole point of predictive modeling is
to improve outcomes. The combination of SPSS and Streams is the answer,
as it gives you the ability to build predictive models at rest which are then
scored using the data in motion. To support this powerful usage pattern,
SPSS predictive models can be directly exported to the Streams run-time
environment. Additionally, Streams supports models defined by the
