In-Depth Information
products that make up the IBM InfoSphere Information Integration and Gov-
ernance platform are being extended to support the IBM Big Data platform;
some are there today, and some are well on their way (although our lawyers
want us to keep it a surprise, we're sure that we've given you a crystal ball
look into the future with the topics that we detail in this chapter).
Although information integration and governance creates trusted infor-
mation, we really want you to remember that information integration and
governance is more than technology; it's also a business strategy and associ-
ated trickle-down change processes to meet corporate-wide governance ob-
jectives. As you design your first Big Data project, it's critical to ascertain
what parts of your project need to be governed, and to what extent.
The first and most critical step of the governance process is the decision
of whether Big Data needs to be governed, and to what extent it needs to be
governed. This should be mandatory for any Big Data project. Not making
a conscious decision can be a recipe for disaster…as in poor adoption, or
worse still, being a one-phase wonder. That is the true value of information
integration and governance technology—it can ensure the success and drive
adoption of your Big Data initiatives. Success with Big Data analytics depends
on a supply of trusted information.
