more important in the era of Big Data. As data comes from many new sources,
it also comes in many new terms and formats. The need for a common
vocabulary has never been greater.
One of the greatest challenges in information governance is developing
policies—you literally have to develop them in every system that manages
and governs data. But what if you could develop governance policies at the
same time that you define metadata? Business Glossary allows you to do
that, to define governance policies in plain language at the same time as you
define metadata. Business Glossary provides business-driven governance by
allowing business analysts and users to define governance policies.
IBM InfoSphere Information Analyzer
This component profiles the quality of data from source systems, and thereby
profiles the systems themselves. For example, is the billing system a reliable
source for residential addresses and email addresses? This is a crucial step for
establishing trust. The number one question that business users ask when try-
ing to establish trust is “What system did this data come from?” Being able to
answer that question, and being able to gather statistics on whether a system
is truly trustworthy, are key steps to establishing trust. IBM InfoSphere Infor-
mation Analyzer profiles source systems, and analyzes the quality of data
within those systems. For example, completeness of records, whether data
stored in a field actually conforms to a standard (for example, an SSN is nine
digits), and reports and visualizes aggregate data quality profiles (percentage
of accurate and complete records, and so on.). This capability may be utilized
on enterprise structured Big Data sources; in larger data sets, representative
data sets may be profiled. The concept of information analysis applies more to
structured data, where a set structure may be expected and subsequently ana-
lyzed. In the future, semistructured data sources may also be analyzed and
key words/values may be examined utilizing text analytics. The concept of
information analysis applies more to structured data.
IBM InfoSphere Blueprint Director
InfoSphere Blueprint Director (Blueprint Director) maps and manages active
integration architecture diagrams. It's a visual tool for designing integration
architectures, which also allows you to dive into specific integration steps and
launch various other integration tools—for example, a user interface for
