In-Depth Information
Recent changes to Apache Hadoop have improved security for HDFS;
however, there are still some limitations. As such, the experience that IBM
has with locking down the enterprise, which is baked into BigInsights, en-
ables you to build a more secure, robust, and easily maintainable multitenant
solution.
Monitoring All Aspects of Your Cluster
To aid in the administration of your cluster, the BigInsights Web Console
provides a real-time, interactive view of your cluster's components. The
BigInsights console includes graphical tools for examining the health of your
BigInsights environment, including the nodes in your cluster, the Hadoop
and BigInsights services, HDFS metadata, MapReduce metrics, and the sta-
tus of your jobs (applications).
Monitoring the Cluster
BigInsights features a rich monitoring dashboard that enables you to tailor
your view of administrative metrics. There are predefined dashboards for the
following areas: System (covering CPU utilization and load average), Cluster,
HDFS (covering total files and corrupted blocks), and MapReduce (covering
map and reduce tasks running, and tasks failed). Each of the dashboards con-
tains monitoring widgets that you can configure to a high degree of granu-
larity, ranging from a range of time to the refresh rate (see Figure 5-7).
