analytics platform that's shipped free inside every Netezza appliance. With
IBM Netezza Analytics, analytic activities such as data exploration, discov-
ery, transformation, model building, and scoring can all be performed right
where the data resides—in the data warehouse. This reduces the time that
it takes to build and deploy analytic models throughout an enterprise. By
shrinking the time from model inception to deployment, companies can move
to enterprise-wide, fact-based decisions by infusing more of their decisions
with insightful on-demand analytics. This also enables practitioners to
experimentally iterate through different analytical models more quickly to
find the best fit. After a model is developed, it can seamlessly be executed
against all of the relevant data in the enterprise. The prediction and scoring
can be done right where the data resides, inside the data warehouse. Users
can get the results of prediction scores in near-real time, helping to
operationalize advanced analytics and making it available throughout the
enterprise.
IBM Netezza Analytics supports multiple tools, languages, and frameworks.
It enables analytic applications, visualization tools, and business intelligence
tools to harness parallelized advanced analytics through a variety of program-
ming methods such as SQL, Java, MapReduce, Python, R, C, C++, and Fortran;
all can be used to deliver powerful, insightful analytics. The comprehensive
advanced analytics environment makes it easy to derive benefit from this plat-
form, giving you the flexibility to use your preferred tools for ad-hoc analysis,
prototyping, and production deployment of advanced analytics.
The Netezza analytics platform enables the integration of its robust set of
built-in analytics with leading analytics tools from such vendors as Revolu-
tion Analytics (who ship a commercial version of R), SAS, IBM SPSS, Fuzzy
Logix, and Zementis. Additionally, you can develop new capabilities using
the platform's user-defined extensions. The entire Netezza analytics plat-
form is shown in Figure 4-5.
IBM Netezza Analytics includes a built-in library of parallelized analytic
functions, purpose-built for large data volumes, that flattens the time-to-
development curve for any analytics project. Table 4-1 summarizes some of
these key built-in analytic functions and their benefits.
