The FWE supply system decreases the heat load of the piston and cylinder group
components. The mechanical load does not change, but the heat load decreases. The
average exhaust gases temperature at the outlet of the cylinders for 70 rpm falls by
29 °C which in turn has a negative effect on the waste-heat boiler capacity because of
smaller exhaust gases energy stream.
The influence of the FWE combustion on the exhaust gases composition is
demonstrated in Fig. 6. As a result of the exercise it can be assumed that supplying
the engine with the FWE has an impact on the NOx emission reduction.

The best results are obtained by supplying the emulsion with the water amount of
30% - the NOx emission reduction falls then by 32% for 70 rpm. The NOx emission
reduction appears in the whole range of the engine working speed. The smoke rises
together with the amount of water in the exhaust gases. The increase of smoke starts
from 4% at 70 rpm to reach 44% at 30 rpm and 30% of water amount in the FWE.

Summary
A simulator equipped with several work stations allows for an individual training and
control of the abilities of several people at the same time [13]. Educating marine
engineers by means of engine room simulators is the least expensive and the safest
training and examination method [2]. Simulators containing appropriate software can
simulate different constructions of engine rooms, operation conditions and types of
ships. Marine engineers trained by means of this method have a good background in
terms of effective and pro-ecological operation of the engine room. Modern
constructions of marine piston combustion engines evolve together with more
stringent environmental regulations. Growing demands for operational safety,
machinery reliability, cost effectiveness [3, 20, 21, 22] and exhaust gases emission
reduction [14] determined the development of modern marine engines construction
and contributed to implementing additional devices to support the engine room
