FWE Fueled Engine Supply System
Exercises conducted in modern constructions of marine piston engines are
thematically related to the problems dealt with in courses: basics of machines
construction, technical thermodynamics, marine diesel engines, ship's machinery and
engine propulsion systems . There are 15 hours foreseen to perform exercises in the
simulator as for modern constructions of marine piston engines. Each out of 5
exercise takes 3 working hours to be done when students play the role of engine room
operators. Students [2]:
are familiarised with the exercise by means of a theoretical introduction;
get to know functional systems implemented in the simulator appropriate for
every exercise;
practise basic operational activities when it comes to functional systems
(starting up, operation, supervising, shutting down);
prepare characteristics for given systems.
A main engine supply system equipped with an emulsifier allowing for creating the
fuel-water emulsion was implemented in the engine room simulator [6]. The system
diagram is shown in Fig. 3 (board of simulator MD11 ). The engine room operator has
a possibility to supply water amount to the emulsion injected into the engine. Apart
from the emulsifier all other installation components are basic equipment in many
supply systems of the main propulsion low-speed engines.
