However, when we analyze this subject, we have to consider the context and the
maturity of the organization in study because not all are prepared to set up it due to
their strategic politics and practices [8].
With the evolution of organizational management, including the management of
HR, in order to create support mechanisms we have witnessed the evolution of
technology, not only in the hardware used, but, essentially, due to the software
revolution.
It is in this context that emerges Business Intelligence as a way to facilitate
managerial work, through decision support, executive information and management
information systems. Thus, we need to have a knowledge based structure that
provides and facilitates the transfer and share of know-how that should be supported
by the organic structure [9], in a top to the base view. Additionally, in the 1990's,
Howard Dressner let us know that this actual technological era is no longer
characterized only by a transaction-processing or operational applications, but more
as an analytic application [10], because we can turn simple facts and data in
information. Thereby, this is a process that includes two primary activities: (1) getting
data, which should be subject-oriented, integrated, time-variant and nonvolatile,
ensuring a single version of the truth; (2) getting data out to provide the final
information to decision making [10].
3.2
How Business Intelligence Helps in the Decision Making Process: Turning
Facts and Data in Information
Although all the organizations may have the characteristics for installing, with success,
a Business Intelligence system, most of its benefits are intangible before its
operationalization [11], therefore it is crucial to prove that worth the investment, which
includes: hardware costs, software costs ('taylor made', or not), implementation costs
(including initial training) and personnel costs [11]. For that it is necessary organizations
to adopt the appropriate structure for enhancing knowledge flow, knowledge sharing
and increasing intellectual capital [9], through follow-up processes [12], formally
managed in a way that resists to the employee's rotation [13].
The organization should be aware that Business Intelligence is an important type of
systems for data analysis and reporting, providing timely, relevant and easy use of
information, allowing managers to make better decisions [11][14], improving the
quality of planning, the timeless and quality of inputs to the decision process [11] as
well as the outputs.
The purpose of Business Intelligence is to aid controlling the stocks and flows of
business information, first identifying and then processing the information into
condensed and useful managerial knowledge and intelligence. To show its
importance, we analyze how it can help a process, operationally difficult, per itself,
being helpful in his management. We are talking about internal Talent identification
in organizations.
