Prestressed concrete poles are primarily used in one of the following
four structural confi gurations:
• cantilevered;
• guyed;
• framed; or
• combined.
Electrical utility applications for these confi gurations include transmis-
sion line structures, distribution line structures, and substation structures.
This chapter provides details of structural confi gurations and applications
of prestressed concrete poles by electrical utilities.
CONFIGURATIONS
Cantilevered Structures
The most common use of concrete pole structures is cantilevered poles
directly embedded in the earth or supported by a foundation. Typical
cantilevered structures are shown in Fig. 1-1 through Fig. 1-4. They can
