Colleyville Nature Center Trail
This flat, wooded trail begins by a small playground and picnic pavilion and winds along a bubbling
creek through a riparian forest and wetlands and past ponds. The ponds are home to an impressive vari-
ety of birds, including the great blue heron and its smaller relative, the green heron, plus flocks of mal-
lards and the forty-six-acre park's resident gaggle of geese.
Distance: 1.25-mile loop
Approximate hiking time: 30 minutes
Difficulty: Easy
Trail surface: Begins with paved path and then becomes dirt path for majority of trail
Best season: Winter for fewer crowds; spring for best birding and wildlife viewing
Other trail users: Mountain bikers, neighborhood families, and dog walkers

Special considerations: Parts of the trail wind close to neighborhood homes. After a very
heavy rain, the creek can turn into a raging river.
Bring binoculars for bird watching, or enjoy catch-and-release fishing from the park's fishing pier.
Finding the trailhead: From Northeast Loop I-820 in North Richland Hills, take the
TX 26/Grapevine Highway exit. Follow TX 26 northeast for 4.8 miles. Turn left onto
Glade Road and proceed 0.6 mile to Mill Creek Drive. Turn left and follow Mill Creek
Drive through a subdivision for 0.3 mile. The park's playground and picnic pavilion are
located by the intersection of Mill Creek and Mill Wood Drives. Turn left into the park-
