In-Depth Information
Start the trail by the main parking lot next to the dog park and head toward the tree-lined creek area.
Veer left off the paved path onto the gravel trail for a walk along the creekbanks on the Texas Outdoor
Education Trail, with its detailed descriptions of the various tree species seen along the trail. Signs that
read BEAR CROSSING don't refer to actual bears but are spots where paths cross over Little Bear Creek.
Several dirt trails spring off the main trail and lead down to the creek for a closer look. At about 0.25
mile the trail enters a more open area alongside playing fields. At about 0.5 mile veer left toward a
pond with an observation deck—a nice birding spot—and then rejoin the main trail.
Follow the wide paved path along the creek until you reach the spot where Main Street crosses over
the trail. This is the turnaround. If you want to hike a bit farther, the trail continues through Bob Eden
Park. You can add another 1.0 mile to the hike, turning around at the playground there.
