L. B. Houston Nature Trail
This trail is largely for off-road cycling, but hikers are welcome as long as they give cyclists right-of-
way. Located just off TX 114 in Irving, the trail winds through a leafy glade and then offers a prime pic-
nic spot by the Elm Fork of the Trinity River.
Distance: 1.6-mile loop
Approximate hiking time: 1 hour
Difficulty: Easy, if you don't mind making way for mountain bikers
Trail surface: Dirt
Best season: May through July
Other users: Trail maintained by and for off-road cyclists
Canine compatibility: Not recommended for dogs; hikers frequently have to move aside
for cyclists and the trail is narrow in many areas.
Fees and permits: No fees or permits required

Special considerations: The trail is closed for several days after a heavy rain. Check the
DORBA Web site for the latest conditions before heading out.
There are special workdays for trail maintenance, usually the last Sunday of the month during
which time portions of the trail might be closed.
There is no water available on the trail, so be sure to bring what you need.
Finding the trailhead: The park is located on California Crossing off TX 114 in
Irving. From Dallas, take TX 114 west toward Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.
Exit at O'Connor Boulevard. Head right, then turn right on Riverside Drive. Turn left
