Step Six:
I mentioned back when I was asking “What do I wish were different in this photo?” that
the shadow areas along the right side of the photo seem too dark, and if things get too dark,
you don't see any detail (and there's lots of detail there that should be seen. After all, those
plants and such are just in the shade—they're not in a dark cave, right?). So, this is an easy
fix. When something's lost in the shadows, just open up those shadow areas by dragging
the Shadows slider to the right until it looks good to you (in this case, I dragged it all the
way over to +95, and it looks much better). Note: Sometimes dragging this far might make
things look a little flat, so it's possible after opening up the shadows a bunch like that, you
might have to increase the Contrast amount some more, so it doesn't look too washed out.
Also, if you have any high ISO noise in the photo, opening the shadows up too much tends
to make the noise more visible. Not always, but just so ya know.
