Step Four:
This next tweak is probably the most important of them all, and the single slider that I be-
lieve will have the most impact on your photo (although it's probably the slider that gets
talked about the least). It's the Contrast slider. The reason this photo, and millions upon
millions of other photos, looks flat just like it is, is simply because the image doesn't have
enough contrast. This is particularly true when you shoot in RAW format, because shooting
in RAW turns your camera's contrast boost (the one it applies to JPEG images automatic-
ally) off, and without that contrast boost, your image looks kinda flat. So, don't be shy with
the Contrast slider, especially on landscape, cityscape, travel, automotive, or anything with
lots of detail—crank that contrast up! (Here I dragged it over to +65, which is where I felt
like it looked good for this particular image.)
