Tone and Detail:
The next section down is Tone and Detail, and honestly I don't ever mess with the Gamma
or Exposure sliders—I save adjusting those for when I'm in Camera Raw after I've made
the HDR image. The Gamma slider controls the midtones: if you drag the slider to the left,
it darkens the midtones; drag it to the right and it brightens them. The Exposure slider con-
trols the overall exposure, much like the Exposure slider in Camera Raw (dragging to the
left darkens the overall image; dragging to the right brightens it). The next slider is the
Detail slider, which kind of acts like the Clarity slider in Camera Raw (it adds something
similar to midtone contrast). Think of this as the “Make it look like HDR” slider—cranking
this one way up helps to create the hyperreal tonemapped artistic look.
