Installing Windows 8 on a Mac
I didn't go over installing Windows 8 on PC hardware since it is very straightforward, but I
thought it was important to call out that Windows 8 runs great on Mac hardware, too. For
this topic, I did testing on a 2012 Mac mini and in the past have used an 11” Air as my day-
to-day Mac/Windows 8 development computer. The only downside of doing development on
a Mac is the lack of a touchscreen.
To get started you will need to launch Boot Camp on the Mac and get a copy of Windows 8.
I used Microsoft's Windows 7 USB/DVD download tool to help turn an ISO of Windows 8
into a bootable USB drive. Boot Camp also has an option to do this for you if you don't have
access to another PC, but it may be problematic if you don't have a CD/DVD drive in your
Mac, which new ones don't have.
Once you have the USB stick ready with Windows 8 on it, load Boot Camp on your Mac and
you will see the screen shown in Figure 10-2 .
