FRAMEWORK OF THE DEVELOPED WATER QUALITY
MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM
(FOR DRAINAGE - SHALLOW LAKE CATCHMENT)
Management Information Systems users are not only decision makers. There are a variety of users
with different levels of involvement based on authorisation and responsibilities. Decision makers are
considered the targeted final users of information produced from such system, for taking policy related
actions. Every involved personnel in the management information system is considered a user,
whether they are analysts, modellers, managers or decision makers. Each user has a specific role
within the application of the system to ensure the flow of information from one level to other until it is
used at the highest level for taking decisions related to managing water resources. This chapter focuses
on the developed framework for WQMIS for the catchment lake system of irrigated watershed. The
developed water quality management information system in this study, with its decision support
capabilities, in the form of computational framework, will be used by different levels of users
according to the required type and level of information. The system will give a better overview of the
water quality situation in the drainage catchments and connected northern lakes, and help to optimise
the management of the drainage water quality. Using this proposed user friendly WQMIS with its
GIS/RS database, water quality models, will serve decision makers, managers and planners and
technical engineers working in the field of water quality management.
