In-Depth Information
if you decide to splurge every so often on a nice meal or hotel, it's hard to average out more than $50 USD
per day unless you are splurging all the time.
On a really tight budget, you could do most of the region on $20 USD per day and do Panama and Costa
Rica on $30-35 USD per day. You'll have to hitchhike a few times, eat only local cuisines and at markets,
stay in dormitories, and maybe camp a few times. You also won't be able to drink that much alcohol.
Central America is a fabulous budget destination. The dollar goes very far here, and accommodations,
food, and transportation are all cheap. It's also usually easy to get cheap flights to the region from the United
States, so you'll save money on your airfare too. It's the perfect place to spend a lot of time on a limited
budget.
