±
1 . 5 , Gauss-Krueger coordinates
In order to avoid negative coordinates which are located West of the reference meridian and not
to lose reference to the reference meridian, Easting coordinates as well as Northing coordinates
of the Gauss-Krueger strip system are to changed in the following way.
(i) x :add10 6 times the meridian number L 0 / 3 , (ii) x :add
the number 500 , 000 m, and (iii) y : define y 0 + y ( l,b )asthe
number reflecting the distance of a point from the equator.
y 0 is the length of the meridian arc from the equator to the
ellipsoidal latitude B 0 .
Example 15.5 (Gauss-Krueger coordinates. Easting versus Northing coordinates).
The point 1, which is located on the Bessel ellipsoid , is described by ellipsoidal normal coordinates
L =6 . 8 and B =51 . 2 . Compare with Fig. 15.11 .
