Makapipi Falls WATERFALL
MAP
Look down, not up, to see the cascades at Makapipi Falls. The falls make a sheer plunge
right beneath your feet as you stand on the ocean side of the Makapipi Bridge. You don't
see anything from your car so if you didn't know about it, you'd never even imagine this
one was here. It's 0.1 miles after mile marker 25; you'll find pull-offs before and after
the bridge.
TOP OF CHAPTER
Nahiku
While the village of Nahiku is down on the coast, its tiny ʻcommercial' center - such as
it is - is on the ocean side of the Hana Hwy, just before mile marker 29. Here you'll find
the Nahiku Marketplace, home to a little coffee shop, and arts and crafts store and several
eateries clustered together.
If you're hungry, stop here. The food's tempting and this is the last place for a meal
between here and Hana. Be aware that hours are island-style flexible and a kiosk may be
closed when you think it would likely be open. Gone fishin'?

Coconut Glen's ICE CREAM $
MAP
( 979-1168; www.coconutglens.com ; MM 27.5 Hana Hwy; scoop of ice cream $5; ) We
have a crush on Coconut Glen. Trained at the New England Culinary Institute, eco-
minded Glen Simkins whips up some mighty delicious organic, vegan ice cream, which
is served in a coconut shell with a coconut-shard for a spoon. The ice cream comes in
five flavors - we're partial to the chili chocolate - and is so darn tasty you won't even
notice it's made from coconut milk, not cream.
The coconuts come from Glen's organic farm, and his roadside stand is made from
90% recycled materials.
