Garden of Eden Arboretum
Why pay $15 per person to visit an arboretum when the entire road to Hana is a garden?
Because the Garden of Eden ( www.mauigardenofeden.com ; 10600 Hana Hwy; admission $15;
8am-3pm) offers a tamer version of paradise. The winding paths are neatly main-
tained, about 700 plants are labeled and the hilltop picnic tables sport gorgeous views, in-
cluding ones of Puohokamoa Falls and of Keopuka Rock, which was featured in the
opening shot of the 1993 film Jurassic Park . A small gallery and gourmet food truck are
also on site. Expect to spend at least an hour wandering the grounds. The arboretum is
0.5 miles past mile marker 10. Cash only.

Puohokamaka Falls
Immediately after mile marker 11 you'll pass Puohokamoa Falls. This waterfall no
longer has public access, but you can get a glimpse of it from the bridge, or a bird's-eye
view of the falls from the Garden of Eden Arboretum.

HaipuaŹ»ena Falls
If you're ready for a dip, HaipuaŹ»ena Falls, 0.5 miles past mile marker 11, provides a
gentle waterfall with a zenlike pool deep enough for swimming. Since you can't see the
pool from the road, few people know this one's here. There's space for just a couple of
cars on the Hana side of the bridge. To reach the falls, simply walk 100 yards upstream.
Wild ginger grows along the path, and ferns hang from the rock wall behind the water-
fall, making an idyllic setting. Be aware of VERY slippery rocks and flash floods.

Clean restrooms and a grassy lawn with picnic tables make this roadside park a perfect
choice for a family picnic stop (although some might find the gaze of the feral cats just a
little unsettling). The park comes up around 0.2 miles after mile marker 12. Be sure to
