Beaches
The further south you go, the better the beaches. At the northern end of Kihei, swimming
is not advised, but kayaking is good in the morning and windsurfers set off in the after-
noon.
Keawakapu Beach BEACH
MAP GOOGLE MAP
From break of day to twilight, this sparkling stretch of sand is a showstopper. Extending
from southern Kihei to Wailea's Mokapu Beach, Keawakapu is set back from the main
road and less visible than Kihei's main roadside beaches just north. Also less crowded,
it's a relaxing place to sunbathe, read and watch the sun go down.
With its cushiony soft sand, Keawakapu is also a favorite for sunrise yoga and wake-
up strolls and is the perfect spot for an end-of-day swim. Mornings are the best time for
snorkeling: head to the rocky outcrops that form the northern and southern ends of the
beach. During winter keep an eye out for humpback whales, which come remarkably
close to shore here.
