One caution: the town can get rough at night. The public parking lot on W Main St is an
after-dark hangout rife with drug dealing and fights that gets more police calls than any
other spot on Maui.
Getting There & Around

various stops in Wailuku, including the state office building and the post office, between
6:30am and 8:30pm. The cost is $2 per boarding.

Wailuku to ʻIao Valley State Park
ʻIao Valley is such a sumptuous sight that in ancient times it was reserved for royalty.
Today much of the upper valley's natural beauty is preserved as parkland, all reached via
ʻIao Valley Rd, which ends at misty ʻIao Valley State Park.

9am-4:30pm Mon-Sat) These fragrant gardens, which straddle both sides of ʻIao
Stream, showcase a superb orchid collection, endemic Hawaiian plants, brilliant bromeli-
ads and a meditative bamboo grove with a trickling waterfall. See if you can find the
world's largest orchid! Visitors are given a numbered plant list, with descriptions, for
their walk.
After your tour, explore the greenhouse. If you live on the mainland (and a few foreign
countries), they'll ship your favorite exotic flower home.
