This low-key cafe is

place to try kava served in a coconut shell. A ce-
remonial drink in old Hawaii, this spicy elixir made from the
Piper methysticum
plant is
a mild relaxant. Wow-Wee Maui's chocolate bars, some spiked with kava, will also make
you swoon.

There's always something happening
at this snazzy performance complex, which boasts two indoor theaters and an outdoor
amphitheater, all with excellent acoustics. As Maui's main venue for music, theater and
dance, it hosts everything from ukulele jams to touring rock bands. Check the online cal-
endar to see if you can catch one of the exceptional Slack Key Masters shows hosted by
Grammy award winner George Kahumoku Jr ($25 per person).

Kahului hosts Maui's big-box discount chains of the Wal-Mart and Costco variety, as
