renovated cottages located on this quiet side street (a designated Historic District) are all
spotless, expertly outfitted and tastefully decorated by hosts who put great care into what
they do.
The one-bedroom and two three-bedroom houses come fully equipped - from robes
and quality DVDs to laundry facilities and freshly roasted coffee from the owners'
Laupahoehoe farm. Rain showers, whirlpool tubs and luxurious linens are other perks.
The one-bedroom also has a hot tub.

) This ever-popular lodge sleeps like a B&B with hotel services. The 12 rooms vary their
offerings, but all embody upscale country romance with gas fireplaces, Hawaiian quilts,
artistic stained glass, vaulted ceilings and bathroom skylights. A relaxing common room
has a wood fireplace, and the manicured gardens hold a gorgeous hot tub. Rates include
breakfast.
Four one- and two-bedroom cottages of equally high quality are also available off-
property; the Ola'a Plantation House is particularly charming. Also contains Volcano's
best restaurant.
Hawaii Volcano Tree House
TREE HOUSE $$$
noted character Skye has constructed two utterly unique tree houses with his own hands
in the forest canopy. Made from entirely recycled materials, they bring the Swiss Family
Robinson to life. The better of the two is Nancy's tree house, which is totally private, of-
fers great views, and has a cozy interior that must be seen to be believed.
The wood stove should be avoided, but a glass of wine in the treetops is a fine way to
end the day. Call for directions.
