Drinking & Entertainment
Akebono Theater LIVE MUSIC
( 965-9990; Pahoa Village Rd; tickets $10-20) This historical theater hosts all kinds of mu-
sic, from Big Island Elvis to visiting jam bands. It's located behind Luquins.
Black Rock Cafe BAR
(15-2872 Pahoa Village Rd; 7am-9pm) Half the Black Rock is an average restaurant
serving passable burgers and breakfast. The other half is a bar popular with Punatics who
are little more Harley Davidson than hippie. Not that it gets rough here (and hippies do
show up too); the Black Rock is just a little saltier, smokier and sweatier.
Luquin's Mexican Restaurant BAR
( 965-9990; 15-2942 Pahoa Village Rd; mains $10-19; 7am-9pm) The Mexican option,
with standard plate combos. Its hopping bar does a brisk business in margaritas ($14 per
pint; try the lilkoʻi number). If the drinks don't get you too hungover, the breakfast here
is pretty excellent too.
Sirius Coffee Connection CAFE
(15-2874 Pahoa Village Rd; 7am-6pm, til 3pm Sun) This cute cafe serves good local coffee
and is a bit of an unofficial community center for Puna.
