Shopping
Honoka'a Marketplace HANDICRAFTS
( 775-8255; 45-3586 Mamane St) This large, well-kept and cheerful shop contains a vari-
ety of products - sarongs, quilts, collectibles, pillows, clothing - united by their colorful,
laid-back tropical vibe. Hawaiian handicrafts fuse with Indonesian and other Asian im-
ports. The shop carries its own label, Mary Guava designs. A personal touch makes all
the difference.
Big Island Grown ARTS & CRAFTS, BEAUTY
( 775-9777; bigislandgrown@hotmail.com; 45-3626 Mamane; 9am-5pm Mon-Sat) This new
business offers products cherry-picked from the Big Island's farmers markets. Where
else will you find bamboo shirts, essential oils distilled from Hawaiian flowers, or the
branding champion, Filthy Farmgirl soap?
Honokaʻa Trading Company ANTIQUES
(Mamane St, Honokaʻa; 10:30am-5pm) If a couple of Honokaʻa aunties emptied their at-
tics, basements and garages, it would look like this hangar-sized store. Weave between
vintage aloha wear, antiques, used books (great Hawaiiana selection), rattan and koa fur-
niture and hand-selected Hawaiian artifacts. Then talk story with the owner, an equally
eclectic character.
