(Mamane St) In late May, sleepy Mamane St startles awake with a BBQ, parade,
country dance, rodeo, saloon girl contest and - a global first - a golf tournament using
macadamia nuts for balls.

Almost all accommodations are outside Honaka'a, including the Ahualoa and Paʻauilo
countryside to the east, and the rim of beautiful Waipiʻo Valley to the west.

Paʻauilo offers a sophisticated farmstay. The comfy two-bedroom accommodations,
which sleep six (with living room futon), include full kitchen, laundry facilities, vacation
gear and access to the grounds: reclaimed koa forest, fruit trees, large vegetable gardens,
pond and livestock, plus distant ocean views.
Guests are encouraged, if they wish, to participate in the life of the farm, a thought-
provoking exercise in sustainable living. Discounts for extended stays; surcharge for less

Loaded with character, this attractively furnished 1932 plantation house is a classic
B&B, complete with a welcoming host who knows the island intimately. The five rooms
differ markedly, but each enjoys designer touches, such as iron bed frames, a wooden
Chinese barber chair, shower skylight and hardwood floors.
Common areas include a living room with books and a large-screen TV (with DVDs),
plus a spacious, secluded lanai. Full, homemade organic breakfast is included. Between
mile markers 3 and 4 on Hwy 240, about 2 miles north of Honokaʻa.
