Waimea Farmers Market MARKET
( 7am-noon Sat) Like its Saturday morning rival, the more central Parker School Farm-
ers Market, this is a fun and vibrant community event offering fresh produce and local
gossip in equal amounts. There's a small selection of high-quality craft stalls. Located in
front of the Hawaiian Home Lands office, near mile marker 55 on Hwy 19.
Waimea Mid-Week Market MARKET
( 9am-4pm Wed) If you can't wait until the weekend farmers markets, this smallish ver-
sion offers local organic produce, island honey, handmade soaps, free-range beef, hand-
made jewelry, hot plate lunches and live paniolo music. Located in the stables at Parker
Ranch, next to the growing Paniolo Heritage Center (free on market days).

landscapes, which pop up in houses and restaurants around the island, this gallery repres-
ents 20 other artists. Of note are Ethan Tweedie's stunning panoramas of Mauna Kea
transferred to aluminum.
Kamuela Liquor Store WINE
( 885-4674; 64-1010 Mamalahoa Hwy; 8:30am-7pm Mon-Sat, 9am-5pm Sun) A wolf in
sheep's clothing, this smallish shop, tucked away in a vintage building, has some of the
island's best selection of wine.
Orientation
The intersection of Kawaihae Rd (Hwy 19) and Mamalahoa Hwy (Hwy 190) is
Waimea's town center. Given that sea and mountains lie all around, it can be a surpris-
ingly confusing point to navigate from, so remember this: Kawaihae Rd leads to
Kawaihai (think beach) and Kohala; Mam Hwy goes past the malls toward Honoka'a and
Hilo, and in the other direction to Saddle Rd.
