Keʻei Cafe, which has carved a name out for itself as an excellent outpost of haute
Hawaiian cuisine. Cracking peanut miso salad sets the stage for powerful mains like
roasted chicken served with red curry sauce - or if you're in the mood, a more Western
peppercorn gravy.
Finish your meal with lilikoʻi cheesecake, but beware: at time of writing, Keʻei Cafe
was cash only.

THE CAPTAIN COOK STORY
On January 17, 1779, Captain Cook sailed into Kealakekua Bay, touching off one of
the most controversial months in Hawaii's history.
Cook's visit coincided with the annual makahiki festival, a four-month period
