Orientation
The highways and major roads in the Kona district run parallel to the coastline, so you're
unlikely to get lost. Kailua-Kona is south of the airport on Hwy 19 (Queen Kaʻahumanu
Hwy), which becomes Hwy 11 (Mamalahoa Hwy) at Palani Rd. What makes navigation
a bit tricky is when Queen Kaʻahumana (Hwy 19) confusingly becomes Kuakini Hwy
(Hwy 11) at the intersection with Palani Rd, then connects with the historic Kuakini Hwy
toward the ocean. In other words, there are two Kuakini Hwys for a stretch!
