Airport State Park. Offers a night manta snorkel ($95), and the boat can be privately
chartered.
Stand Up Paddle Boarding (SUP)
It's hard to explain the appeal of Stand Up Paddle Boarding. Initially the sport only
seems to make surfing slower and paddling more difficult, but in fact it's a sweet blend
of intense exercise, aquatic adventure and marine biology lesson. SUP delivers a core
workout accompanied by dolphins, turtles and tropical fish. And the best part is anyone
can do this easy and fun activity. Lessons and rentals are available at the Kona Boys
Beach Shack ( Click here ): 90-minute private lessons cost $150, one-hour rental $25),
right on Kamakahonu Beach.
Surfing
What little surf there is on the Leeward Coast is not in Kailua-Kona but a short drive
north at Banyans and Pine Trees, or south at Kahaluʻu Beach (equipment and lessons
available).
