Taxi
» The main islands have taxis with metered fares based on mileage, although a few
drivers may offer flat rates.
» Taxi rates vary, as they're set by each county, but average $3 at flagfall, then $3 or more
per additional mile (luggage and airport surcharges may apply).
» Taxis are readily available at most airports, hotels and resorts, but otherwise you'll prob-
ably need to phone one.
Tours
Several local companies offer half- and full-day sightseeing bus tours of each island. Spe-
cialized adventure tours, such as whale-watching cruises and snorkeling trips, are avail-
able on all the main islands. Helicopter tours are most popular on the Big Island, Kauaʻi
and Maui; for flightseeing charters, contact smaller island airlines directly ( Click here ) .
Most of these tours can be booked after arrival in Hawaii, but if your schedule is tight or
you're visiting during peak travel times, reserve ahead.
Roberts Hawaii ( 800-831-5541, 539-9400; www.robertshawaii.com ) If you want to
visit another island while you're in Hawaii but only have a day to spare, consider an
